The basis of everything!

Why are we the way we are? Why we think what we think… The way we think? Why do we want what we want? What do we really want?

These are the questions that are fundamentally that interest me… Everything flows from there.

And I am starting to believe that every thing flows from the fact that as humans we are fundamentally insecure, incomplete, needy, weak and vulnerable.

Right from the time we are born, we need attention, nurturing, protection and guidance just to survive…

We have an intellect that is superior in reasoning, analysis, processing, imagining and creativity… But physically we are infact very weak and require a delicate balance of nature to survive… Our emotional neediness begins from that basic requirement to survive and keeps growing and getting vexed at every stage of Maslow’s hierarchy…

Its manifested in every aspect of human life and not just in physical infancy or survival…

Why do we need leaders?

Why do we need a faith and religion?

Why do we need external recognition to be content?

Why do we have wars or conflicts?

Why is finding happiness within ourselves a nirvana – a difficult pursuit and not easy?

Why do we simply need anything?

Its because we are incomplete… And we know it… Physically, mentally, physiologically, pyschologically, emotionally…

Look at it differently… Once we are able to nurture, provide for anything we desire we feel happy… kids, family, ourselves… We yearn to keep doing that… For that gives us a sense of completeness… A sense of achievement as we otherwise feel incompetent or useless to a degree…

Even the most selfish and hedonistic person looks for recognition externally… As someone or something…

We long for materialistic pleasures to please our body… Our definition of growth is currently measured by GDP growth which simply is a measure of our increase in production to consume!

We yearn control and certainty in our existence… In everything in life… Power for us is all about control… Ability to influence our will at our will… And being certain of what comes… Else we hoard, save, buy insurance… Seek protection…

Being able to deal with uncertainty is a sign of confidence… And the mere fact that we find discomfort in that and inherently pursue certainty shows how weak we fundamentally are…

In interpersonal relationship’s as well we are needy and have the biggest conflicts due mismatched expectations and needs… We are a species that cannot survive alone and find it a challenge to live together…

All our thinking is based on what we want… And what we want is based on what we desire… And the roots of our desires are in what we lack inherently…

We make gods, role models, leaders… Put a purpose of life as an ideal… All with an intent to give us a vision to eliminate that incompleteness in us…

Our justice, morality, ethics… All are based on our neediness… Our vulnerabilities…

Why do many people crave a different experience… Why is it exhilarating to find someone coming to the edge of danger, going through it and ultimately succeeding… Why is the failure to go through a difficulty such a heart breaking tragedy…

The truth is that if the millions and billions of years of earth’s and the universe’s history was compressed into 24 hours, we humans have arrived just in the last few seconds…

And yet here we are… Thinking of what we think… of ourselves, about each other… Creating a world of our own… Destroying our own world… Creating complex issues… Trying to understand things about the universe that are beyond limits of our understanding… And yet not knowing ourselves fully…

The journey to any progress… Any theory… Should really begin in introspection of self… For whatever we perceive, our hypothesis, our conceptions, our line of thinking… All is driven by our desires… Understand the roots of our desires first… For that will colour the very tools we want to use to go any further… Using our brains, without understanding our mind, is using it blindly… Not knowing what drives it in the direction its going!
